Georgia BBQ Championship Throw Down
January 27-28, 2012

Are you ready for a Throw Down?
As Competitive BBQ becomes increasingly popular, the cost to cook teams has
risen along with the amenities and prize money offered by most contests. While
we all agree that bigger and more elaborate events are good for the BBQ
community as a whole, the expense of the larger events and high number of
competitors can be intimidating to the novice cook just starting out.
The GBC Throw Down is designed to give a nod to the small local contests that
started it all, while still including a few key features to pique the interest
of seasoned veterans of the BBQ Trail. Here's how it works:
An Old School Contest...
Cost & Prizes
Entry fees are being kept low: only $199 per team. To provide even more value,
your entry includes two tickets to the GBC Banquet - a $70 value. The total
guaranteed prize purse will be $3,200. Grand Champion, Reserve and top five
teams in each category will receive cash prizes.
Facilities
Cook sites will be 20'x25', with a limited number of larger sites available.
Shared water taps will be provided, but not electric hookups. Sites will be
paved and have access to indoor restrooms.
...With a GBC Twist!
Amenities
Cook sites will be in the parking lots adjacent to the Brasstown Valley Lodge.
Since the cook sites themselves will be somewhat Spartan, teams are encouraged
to take advantage of the resort's Lodge just steps away. The Lodge will be open
24 hours for your convenience and comfort.
Later Turn-Ins
In recognition of the challenges of cold weather in late January, turn-in times
will be shifted to the afternoon to make things easier on the cooks. We will
begin with chicken at 3:00PM, ribs at 3:30, pork at 4:00 and finally brisket at
4:30PM.
Sanctioning and More
The GBC Throw Down is fully sanctioned by KCBS and we expect to have 100% CBJs
at the judging tables indoors in the Lodge, so novice teams can be confident
that they will truly see how their scores compare to the most experienced Pros
on the circuit.
In addition, this contest is an official qualifier for the Jack Daniels
Invitational. The GBC Throw Down is the first opportunity of the year to get
into the draw in Georgia, which will obviously be of interest to teams looking
to go "all the way" to Lynchburg in 2012.
(Note that points earned at this contest will not be applied toward GBC
standings, as the Throw Down is NOT part of the Georgia BBQ Championship Series)

We hope that this unique contest will intrigue new and experienced teams alike.
